Engineering accurate, browser-native DNS diagnostics.

Mydnsspeedtest was built to solve a simple yet widespread problem: traditional DNS benchmarking tools measure latency from remote cloud servers, not from your actual home, office, or mobile connection.

Our Core Mission

True Client-Side Measurement Without Software Downloads

For years, testing which DNS provider was truly fastest required installing terminal utilities like namebench or third-party executable binaries on your operating system. Other online benchmarks routed requests through their own web servers, presenting speeds that reflected their datacenter's connection rather than your device's actual network latency.

Mydnsspeedtest leverages modern web standards — specifically DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH, RFC 8484) and the Browser Fetch API — to query 28+ leading public resolvers directly from your browser. Every measurement accounts for real-world TLS handshakes, your ISP's physical routing, Anycast node routing, and local network jitter.

01

Zero Installation

No software agents, browser extensions, or administrative permissions required. Instant benchmarking on any device with a modern browser.

02

Absolute Privacy

Your DNS queries are transmitted directly to the selected resolvers. We do not store, inspect, or monetize the domains you test or your IP address.

03

Statistical Rigor

We reject outliers, measure connection warm-up, compute true p50 median latencies, and evaluate standard deviation jitter (σ) to identify reliable resolvers.

How the Engine Operates

When you click Run Speed Test, the engine performs the following pipeline:

  • Connection Warm-Up: Initiates untimed pre-flight requests to establish TCP three-way handshakes and TLS 1.3 session caches, ensuring measurements isolate DNS processing rather than cold socket overhead.
  • RFC 8484 Wireformat & JSON Queries: Dispatches DNS queries across popular, diverse domains to test real-world cache hits and misses.
  • CORS Adaptive Fallback: For public resolvers that enforce restrictive origin headers, our engine transparently switches to opaque standard wireformat requests to capture true physical round-trip times without crashing.
  • Statistical Synthesis: Results are sorted by median response time, annotated with delta spreads vs. the fastest provider, and paired with copy-paste configuration commands for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
